State of the City

From redevelopment to power plants, Gainesville's mayor touched on all different topics during her second annual State of the City address.

Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan highlighted accomplishments from 2005 including the start of numerous re-development projects like University Corners, University Lofts and the Depot Avenue storm water park. She also looked ahead to 2006 goals and says she thinks the commission can come to a decision about the city's future energy supply. Hanrahan says that issue is, "How to provide safe clean energy with respect to to environmental protection, cost and social equity."

Another 2006 project drivers might be interested in is trying to get funding to upgrade traffic signals and improve traffic flow in the city. Overall, the mayor says she's happy with the way things are going and is excited to see how all of the current projects turn out over the next few years.
